A firewall is a system designed to protect a computer network from unauthorized access, especially via the Internet. A virtual private network (VPN) is a private data network that runs on a shared or public network platform, like the Internet.

Openface can install a firewall, which is a checkpoint between two networks through which all Internet traffic must pass. Your employees are able to access the Internet but the firewall prevents hackers from accessing your private, internal network.

Technical details
Openface virtual private networks use special cryptography-enabled routers and other security mechanisms to ensure that data cannot be intercepted as it travels between the networks over the Internet. A virtual private network provides the same capabilities as privately-owned or leased communication lines to which you have exclusive access (such as a Wide Area Network, or WAN). However, the cost of a virtual private network is much lower because it uses a shared public infrastructure rather than exclusive line access.
