Important information about the 911 service*

Openface provides a 911 emergency service that respects the CRTC regulations but that remains however limited compared to the E911 service offered by a traditional telephone line:

  • It is subject to your IP network availability and may be affected by power outages or other interruptions of service.
  • Unlike the E911 service that automatically routes the call to the appropriate PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point), it is a basic 911 service, i.e. the call is first routed to a bilingual emergency communications center that will request the exact address of where you are calling from. This can cause some delay and you should not hang up the phone before providing this information. You will have to dial 911 again if the call gets disconnected.

You must inform all possible users of these limitations. Openface will in no way be responsible or liable for any loss resulting from attempting to use 911 or other emergency services. To overcome these limitations, Openface recommends the use of a traditional phone line whenever possible for 911 calls.

User tips:

  • Please provide to Openface your exact address when you register with us. We will communicate it to the emergency communications center who will store it in their database. When you will have to dial 911, the center will ask you if you are calling from the same address. Only if this is not the case, you will have to communicate your complete address.
  • Please always inform Openface of any change of address. The change will be communicated to the emergency communications center that will then update its database; please count 48 hrs for any change of address to be effective.

*Available in Canada and USA only.
